IN 1968, ORIGINAL OWNERS COMMISSIONED NOTED USONIAN ARCHITECT DAVID HENKEN CURRENT, SECOND OWNERS SENSITIVELY RENOVATED THIS MASTERWORK . As a young engineer living in New York City in the 30’s, David Henken decided that the city was getting too congested. He wanted to build a home up in Westchester County, immediately North of the city. Around this time, Henken and his wife attended an exhibit of Frank Lloyd Wright’s work at MoMA. Seeing this exhibit so captured their imaginations that Henken and his wife pulled up stakes in New York to study with Frank Lloyd Wright at Taliesin, his compound in Wisconsin. Ultimately, he worked alongside Frank Lloyd Wright designing homes in Usonia, as well his own home on Wright Way. The Dusek’s [original owners] commissioned David Henken in 1968 to design their dream home on a gorgeous boulder & tree strewn private piece of property in Armonk, New York. The downstairs design plan was executed later by Russell Dusek’s brother, an architect and follower of Frank Lloyd Wright. The house was thoughtfully positioned on the property for privacy, to maximize solar gain and take advantage of the wonderful view of Cobamong Lake, a secluded 20 acre neighboring estate. Henken designed this home embracing the union of landscape & architecture. The interior excites the senses with warm, organic textures showcasing the original, preserved details. Generous glass unites indoors & outdoors seamlessly.
